TROUBLE IN WONDERLAND

Bourbon, bluegrass…and another dead body.

“Trouble In Wonderland is a compelling and engrossing mystery that kept me guessing until the end.” - BookTrib

Always up to her neck in some adventure involving murder, or of the heart (or more likely both), video store owner, Annie Fillmore, is at it again. Having taken a sojourn to a video convention in Wonderly, Kentucky, Annie is inauspiciously welcomed in her hotel room by the white chalk outline of a shape she has come to recognize all too well.

A corpse.

A sensational gumshoe and engaging subplots turn a standard detective tale into something exceptional.

Darkly funny

Finding a fun mystery with a well-rounded female protagonist is such a treat, and Annie Fillmore certainly doesn’t disappoint. Annie is such a refreshing character, with a quick wit and a dry sense of humor that keeps you laughing — and forgetting that she’s investigating an actual murder.

Good as Evanovich, but less predictable.

CINCINNATI’S FUNNIEST Crime Novelist

Meet Kathi

It was 1973 and I was living in Westchester County, NY with my then-husband and my two small children when I took a continuing education class on creative writing with Mary Cheever. She liked one of my stories well enough to take it home to edit and share with her husband, John, who you probably know. "Isn't it great?" she asked him. "Of course it's good, but she'll never do anything with it." he allegedly replied. "Why do you say that?" she wanted to know. "Because it's not her focus. She's a young wife with a husband and young kids and that will command all of her attention."

Mary recalled this to me in her inimical soft pitched voice when she returned my marked up story encouraging, "Doesn't that just make you mad enough to finish it?"

Well, not only have the 70's, 80's and 90's sped by, but I am no longer young or a wife and my kids have nearly grown kids of their own. And I am mad enough to finish that damn story...
